The Konrad Adenauer Stiftung Foundation and the Konstantinos Karamanlis Democracy Institute, coordinated by the New Democracy Program Secretariat, welcomed His Royal Highness Prince El Hassan Bin Talal of Jordan, as part of organizing a roundtable discussion on “current developments in the Middle East.” The meeting’s keynote speaker was His Royal Highness Prince Hassan Bin Talal, who among other topics discussed the Blue Peace project.
HRH Prince Hassan Bin Talal: Reconstruction of Middle Eastern countries
Specifically, the Jordanian Prince’s central position was building a new Marshall Plan for the Middle East, aimed at reconstructing regional countries and enhancing human security, with the core focus on creating a regional “Water and Energy” community, modeled after the European Coal and Steel Community. Additionally, he made special mention of the Blue Peace project, which is a regional initiative focused on transforming water scarcity in the Middle East from a source of conflict into a catalyst for cooperation regarding sustainable water management, creating more resilient ecosystems, and strengthening dialogue between countries aimed at economic development.

The future of the Abraham Accords
Jordan’s regional role, the future of the Abraham Accords, the flagship “India-Middle East-Europe Corridor” project constitute some of the topics on which extensive discussion and exchange of views took place, with the participation of Greek officials, academics and think tank representatives.
At the event, Deputy Foreign Minister responsible for Greeks Abroad, Giannis Loverdos, delivered opening remarks, emphasizing that the strategic cooperation between Greece and Jordan constitutes a pillar of stability and development in the broader region. The deputy minister made special mention of the Greek humanitarian aid mission in August to the Palestinian population of Gaza, through special flights, coordinated with Jordanian and Israeli authorities. The roundtable discussion, conducted under Chatham House rules, also included participation by Giorgos Stamatis, MP and member of the Greece-Jordan Parliamentary Friendship Group. The discussion was moderated by journalist Alexia Koulouri from the Parliament’s television channel. Opening remarks were delivered by Marian Wendt, Head of Konrad Adenauer Stiftung Greece and Cyprus, Panos Stathopoulos, Director of the Scientific Council of the Konstantinos Karamanlis Democracy Institute, and Antonia Dimou, Deputy Secretary of the ND Program.
Prior to the roundtable discussion, HRH Hassan Bin Talal was given a tour by the Parliament’s Public Relations and Protocol Directorate of the exhibition “…beloved works of their hands”. Ceramics by refugee creators of Faliric Kiutaheia” hosted in the exhibition space of the Hellenic Parliament.
