Kyriakos Mitsotakis, Kostas Karamanlis and Antonis Samaras nearly a year after their last joint appearance in October 2024 at the “Konstantinos Karamanlis” Foundation event, will meet tomorrow at 6:30 PM at the Athens Odeon for the book presentation by former minister and Rodopi MP Euripidis Stylianidis. Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and his two predecessors will meet – just meters away from the historic first offices of New Democracy on Rigillis Street – amid a particularly sensitive period for Greece’s political scene, characterized by intense discussion within the center-right camp regarding Maximos Mansion’s attempts to reconcile with the Samaras camp, while rumors intensify about the former prime minister from Messenia taking initiative to establish a new political party.
In this direction of “opening” were interpreted the statements by top government officials about the unity of the ruling party and Antonis Samaras’s contribution to the party and the country, as well as the prime minister’s positioning during his press conference at the Thessaloniki International Fair regarding the two former prime ministers, which was evaluated as an attempt to lower tensions between Maximos Mansion and Messrs. Karamanlis and Samaras.
Euripidis Stylianidis book presentation: The former prime ministers who will attend
The prime minister’s office officially announced, just hours ago, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis’s attendance at tomorrow’s event for the presentation of the collective volume edited by New Democracy MP for Rodopi and associate professor of law at the European University of Cyprus, Euripidis Stylianidis. The volume is titled “Artificial Intelligence: Human Rights, Democracy & Rule of Law,” and will take place at the Athens Odeon at 6:30 PM. The prime minister’s attendance at tomorrow’s event was announced after Euripidis Stylianidis’s visit to Maximos Mansion last September, where the former minister invited the prime minister to his book presentation, with Kyriakos Mitsotakis showing particular interest.
The two former prime ministers have confirmed their attendance, while at the presentation of the book “Artificial Intelligence: Human Rights, Democracy and Rule of Law,” expected attendees include Archbishop of Athens Hieronymos, Parliament Speaker Nikitas Kaklamanis, former President Prokopis Pavlopoulos, former Minister Dora Bakoyannis, and government ministers as well as MPs from New Democracy and the opposition. Mr. Stylianidis has extended invitations to all political party leaders. According to sources, former prime minister Alexis Tsipras, who announced his resignation from his parliamentary position last Monday amid intensifying discussion about founding a new party, has left open the possibility of attending. Attendees are also expected from academic and military circles at tomorrow’s event.
Antonis Samaras’s first public appearance after his daughter’s death
It’s worth noting that this will be Antonis Samaras’s first public appearance after the unexpected loss of his daughter Lena Samaras, which plunged the former prime minister’s family into mourning and caused nationwide sympathy. Regarding the other former prime minister Kostas Karamanlis, his upcoming speech on October 15 at an event honoring Anna Psarouda Benaki at the Old Parliament, organized by the Panhellenic Women’s Organization “Panathinaiki,” is anticipated with interest, where the former prime minister will be the keynote speaker on the topic of democracy quality, institutions, and parliamentarism, with those familiar with behind-the-scenes developments hinting at a highly interesting address from the former prime minister with criticisms on domestic and foreign fronts.
It’s worth noting that the last time Messrs. Kyriakos Mitsotakis, Kostas Karamanlis and Antonis Samaras appeared together at a political event was last October at the Konstantinos Karamanlis Foundation at the opening event of the international scientific conference “1974-2024: 50 years since the transition to Democracy,” with Italian former prime minister Mario Monti as the main speaker.
That event was characterized as a major “political event” for New Democracy’s internal dynamics as it marked the first joint meeting of the three, following months of internal turmoil caused by sharp criticism from the two former prime ministers regarding government handling of multiple fronts, with emphasis on foreign policy. The formal greetings and smiles in front of cameras between K. Mitsotakis and his two predecessors Kostas Karamanlis and Antonis Samaras were not enough to lighten the tense atmosphere in relations, especially between Maximos Mansion and the former prime minister from Messenia, which had developed after exchanges of criticism from both sides. Moreover, a few days later in mid-November 2024, Antonis Samaras was expelled from New Democracy.
The volume, edited by Associate Professor of Law and former Minister, Dr. Euripidis St. Stylianidis, bears the title: “Artificial Intelligence: Human Rights, Democracy & Rule of Law“
The event is held under the auspices of the Speaker of the Hellenic Parliament, Mr. Nikitas Kaklamanis and takes place on Wednesday, October 8, 2025 at 6:30 PM at the I. Despotopoulos Amphitheater, Athens Odeon
