2,000 deportations have been carried out in the last quarter during which the new framework for illegal immigration has been implemented, as stated by the Minister of Migration and Asylum, Thanos Plevris. Speaking on SKAI 100.3, he clarified that with the reduction in migration flows to the country in recent months, an extension of the asylum measure that expires in mid-October is not justified.
Plevris: Those granted asylum with agricultural skills won’t receive benefits
When asked about the bill on legal migration, he explained that individuals who are granted asylum and have knowledge of agricultural work will not receive benefits, but will be transferred for 3 to 4 months to facilities in Larissa, Thebes and Oinofyta to familiarize themselves and be utilized in Greek agriculture.
He mentioned that the framework for those receiving asylum will be tightened while the EU’s New Pact on Migration and Asylum will be implemented in June 2026. He added that 42% of people entering Greece are granted asylum.
