The repatriation of Greek citizens who participated in the “Global Sumud Flotilla” is expected in the coming hours, and according to Giorgos Gerapetritis, they are all in good health. Specifically, the Foreign Minister stated in an interview with SKAI radio station: “In the coming hours we expect that everyone will return home safely to our homeland.” At the same time, he emphasized that the Greek Foreign Ministry “jumped on the issue” from the first moment, while he himself spoke repeatedly with his Israeli counterpart to ensure the health and welfare of the citizens there. Additionally, Mr. Gerapetritis expressed his displeasure with the violent behavior that went viral on social media.
Gerapetritis: Greek citizens to be repatriated via special flight
Specifically, the Foreign Minister stated: “We ensured that the procedures provided for by Israeli law were expedited, as it included some judicial hearing procedures for those who wished. These procedures have been completed and within the day we expect that Greek citizens will be repatriated via a special flight, which the Foreign Ministry arranged.” It should be noted that, according to the minister, citizens of foreign countries will also be on this flight. “Friendly governments and foreign states asked us to facilitate their transportation.” He also mentioned that, as far as he knows, there were some isolated incidents of verbal violence. “We are handling all of this through diplomatic channels,” noted Mr. Gerapetritis.
