In a particularly emotional atmosphere, a memorial service took place on Wednesday afternoon at the Lieutenant General Sotiris Stavriankos camp of the Greek Forces in Cyprus to commemorate those who fell during the Turkish invasion in July and August 1974. Greek Parliament Speaker Nikitas Kaklamanis was present at the ceremony, and unable to hide his emotion, immediately after laying a wreath at the memorial of the fallen, he knelt down, wanting to honor in this way the memory of those who sacrificed their lives for Freedom.
