A deep internal crisis is hitting PASOK, just days after the presentation of its “green” program, behind which the leadership of Harilaou Trikoupi Street entrenched itself, claiming that its presence at the Thessaloniki International Fair had particular resonance – something that was not reflected in recent polls, causing the first loud alarm bells to ring.
Civil war climate within PASOK
The atmosphere within the movement has become particularly tense, with leading figures publicly expressing their dissatisfaction. The new internal party disputes reveal deeper problems in the party’s operation and orientation.
The mosaic of conflicts is shaped as follows: Pavlos Geroulanos fired the first flare, warning from Aridaia that “if the needle doesn’t move in the next two months, we’ll have a problem moving it until the elections.” This phrase was considered by many as an ultimatum to PASOK’s leadership.
Meanwhile, Haris Doukas demands a clear congressional decision that would exclude any possibility of cooperation with New Democracy, regardless of the number of electoral contests required.
Anna Diamantopoulou conveyed to the leadership that PASOK should not carry the “flag” of populism, emphasizing that the rallies for the Tempi tragedy did not strengthen their party, but Plefsi Eleftherias (Course of Freedom).
Haris Kastanidis criticized the neglect of institutional bodies, noting that the Political Council has not convened since 2024, the Political Center remains inactive, and the appointment of the KOES secretary was carried out without member participation.
Additionally, Filippos Sachinidis, a member of the Political Council, announced the creation of a new think tank called Progressive Lab, indirectly expressing his dissatisfaction with party operations.
While MPs digest Kostas Simitis’s warning that “opportunities are not infinite,” concerns about a new party by Alexis Tsipras are growing stronger.
Androulakis’s response to internal party criticism
Nikos Androulakis believes that all objections have been adequately addressed and refuses to comment further on officials’ questions. Speaking to OPEN, he sent clear messages to his internal party critics.
Regarding Geroulanos’s statements about PASOK’s “stuck needle,” the president responded that at the Thessaloniki Fair the party presented concrete proposals in all sectors. He characterized the statements as misdirected and criticized the inward-looking discussion instead of focusing on the program.
Concerning Anna Diamantopoulou’s observations, Androulakis reminded of the tragedy of 57 victims at Tempi and emphasized the need for respect toward grieving families. He defended the party’s stance on revealing the truth without exploitation.
Finally, he categorically reiterated that there is no scenario for cooperation with New Democracy, responding to Haris Doukas’s objections.
It’s worth noting that there are already suggestions to Nikos Androulakis for… expulsions, to stop the internal party complaints before they take uncontrollable dimensions.
