Maria Karystianos launched fierce criticism against Supreme Court President Anastasia Papadopoulou and the “no” to relatives’ requests for exhumation of victims from the Tempi tragedy. She emphasized that the case was closed exceptionally on the same day that new “explosive” evidence emerged from the State Chemistry Laboratory.
“We have the right to exhumation. My child’s remains belong to me, they are not state property for someone to forbid me,” Ms. Karystianos specifically stated to Athens 9.84. She is President of the “Tempi 2023” Victims’ Relatives Association and was recently at Syntagma Square, standing alongside Panos Routsis, father of 22-year-old Dennis, who was killed in the Tempi rail tragedy, as was her daughter Martha. Routsis continues his hunger strike.
Karystianos against Supreme Court: “No toxicological tests were conducted, which is why exhumation should have been ordered automatically”
Maria Karystianos harshly criticized Supreme Court President Anastasia Papadopoulou “who said that exceptional investigation was conducted and the case was properly closed to proceed with the process, when on the same day evidence emerged from the General State Chemistry Laboratory with 17 xylene samples.”
She added that instead of requesting exhumation for toxicological tests, the investigator closed the case. “No toxicological tests have been conducted. For this reason alone, exhumation should have been ordered automatically,” she emphasized.
Moreover, she revealed that there are two to three bodies with chemical burns from the air, and while the victims’ clothing remained intact, they listed carbonization as the cause of death.
