The contract for the acquisition of one Belharra standard 2++ frigate, as well as the conversion of the 3 previous Belharra standard 2 to standard 2++ level, will be proposed by Defense Minister Nikos Dendias, during the session of the permanent committee on Defense and Foreign Affairs with the agenda item: Processing and examination of the Defense Ministry’s draft law “Approval of Defense sector Contract drafts for the modification of Contracts numbered 016B/21 and 017B/21 for the procurement of ‘FDI HN’ type frigates and their subsequent support”.
Nikos Dendias: I am certain that the national representation will support the government in the need to strengthen the Greek Navy
In statements at the parliament courtyard, Nikos Dendias mentioned that “I dare say with absolute knowledge that the Belharra standard 2++ frigate is today the most advanced frigate on the planet. Compared to the original standard 2 frigate type, it carries one plus 10 improvements as a result of the experience that has been gained. On one hand from the wars in recent times, but also from Operation “Aspides” in the Red Sea. It’s worth mentioning just one of the significant improvements – the capability of this frigate, the 4th “THEMISTOKLIS” and subsequently the remaining 3 frigates to carry cruise missiles with a range of over a thousand kilometers.”
“This missile will most likely be the ELSA missile, the new generation of the SCALP missile. I am certain that the national representation will support the government in the national need to further strengthen the Greek Navy,” Nikos Dendias concluded.
