A government source from New York revealed details surrounding the cancellation of the scheduled meeting between Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan with the meeting having been planned to take place on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly. The government source expressed reservations about the final implementation of the meeting. The chances of resuming diplomatic contact appear limited, considering the extremely busy schedule of the Greek Prime Minister for Wednesday.
Government source from New York on the canceled Mitsotakis-Erdogan meeting
“During the organization of the meeting, our side was clear. We always announce our meetings in advance, Turkey usually doesn’t announce them. The appointment was absolutely scheduled, it was agreed upon and we announced the meeting within the framework of the UN General Assembly.
From there on, I don’t know if the meeting will ultimately take place. I see it as very difficult at this moment, based also on the Prime Minister’s schedule, which is extremely heavy tomorrow (Wednesday). But even if it doesn’t happen, there will be an opportunity for the two leaders to talk at some other time. After all, the Prime Minister has already met seven times with President Erdogan and we always pursue open channels of communication“.
