Environment and Energy Minister Stavros Papastavrou will meet with his American counterpart Chris Wright in New York, where he is traveling today. Among other activities, the Greek minister will participate in the Atlantic Council’s work on “Meeting for Energy Security in Central and Eastern Europe.”
Within the framework of the Council, Mr. Papastavrou will hold a bilateral meeting with US Energy Secretary Chris Wright, while also participating in a panel consisting of Lithuania’s Foreign Minister Kęstutis Budrys, Estonia’s Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna, Ukraine’s Minister of Economy, Environment and Agriculture Oleksii Sobolev, Bulgaria’s Energy Minister Zhecho Stankov, Romania’s Energy Minister Bogdan Gruia Ivan, and Deputy Foreign Minister of the Czech Republic Jiří Kozák.
During his stay in the US, Mr. Papastavrou will also have meetings with representatives of Greek-American organizations.
Energy affairs: Chris Wright visits Athens in November – will meet Mitsotakis and Papastavrou
With a clear message in favor of Europe’s energy independence from Russia and support for cooperation with “reliable friends,” US Energy Secretary Chris Wright had appeared recently in a closed online discussion with journalists, in which “Parapolitika” also participated.
Wright, who plays a significant role in shaping US energy strategy, had emphasized that Trump’s election “was about returning common sense to all areas of government,” showing that Washington’s energy policy is returning to more realistic frameworks.
Wright is planning a visit to Athens in early November, where – according to sources – he will have meetings with both Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Energy Minister Stavros Papastavrou. Washington is investing politically and strategically in Greece’s role as an energy hub in Southeast Europe, and Wright’s visit is expected to constitute another link in this deeper US-Greece alignment, focusing on natural gas, security, and geopolitical stability in the region.
