A stern message to bus drivers who may be “gaming the system” was sent by Konstantinos Kyranakis, speaking on Parapolitika 90.1 and the show “Apenanti Mikrofona” with Vasilis Skouris and Sotiris Xenakis. He announced upcoming medical examinations that will be conducted in cooperation with the Ministry of Health to determine whether drivers genuinely face health issues.
Kyranakis: Out of 3,100 drivers, 700 claim some form of illness
Specifically regarding driver shortages due to illness, Mr. Kyranakis noted: “Out of 3,100 drivers, approximately 700 claim some form of illness. Because some may be justified and others may not be justified and are gaming the system, mass examinations will be conducted in cooperation with the Ministry of Health within a week to clarify this matter. Those who genuinely have health problems will have their professional driving licenses revoked. Because some are cheating and saying ‘I want to receive my salary from the public sector but also go work for a private company as a driver’ – this will end.”
