New Democracy MP for Larissa Maximos Charakopoulos characterized the decision by Prime Minister and New Democracy President Kyriakos Mitsotakis to propose him for the position of General Secretary of the ND Parliamentary Group as both “particularly honorable” and a “challenge.” He also noted that “we must contribute even more with all our strength, in a climate of unity and constructive participation, to the government’s legislative work.”
Statement by Maximos Charakopoulos
“The proposal made to me by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis to assume the responsible position of General Secretary of the New Democracy Parliamentary Group is undoubtedly particularly honorable, but also a challenge for even more active contribution to the party at a particular juncture. For this reason, I accept it and thank him for the trust he shows in my person and my political career. Of course, the final judgment of my candidacy is in the hands of my fellow colleagues in the party’s Parliamentary Group.
In any case, the next General Secretary of our Parliamentary Group is called upon to continue the difficult work undertaken by the late Apostolos Vesyropoulos, whose unexpected death shocked us all. In the current unstable international situation, as MPs of the party of responsibility founded by national leader Constantine Karamanlis, we must contribute even more with all our strength, in a climate of unity and constructive participation, to the government’s legislative work. Our common goal is to increase the prosperity of all Greeks and successfully address major international challenges.”
