Environment and Energy Minister Stavros Papastavrou characterized the joint bid submitted by Chevron and Helleniq Energy as a “development of hope and prospects for Greece,” with the American giant’s interest in hydrocarbons representing a significant step toward upgrading our country.
Papastavrou: New chapter for exploiting undersea energy wealth
“Today, the Chevron-Helleniq Energy consortium announced its participation in the international tender for the 4 offshore blocks south of Crete and the Peloponnese. This opens a new chapter for exploiting our homeland’s undersea energy wealth. This is a development of hope and prospects for our country,” said Minister Papastavrou following completion of the International Tender for granting hydrocarbon exploration and exploitation rights in marine areas south of Crete and south of the Peloponnese, and following HELLENiQ Energy’s announcement, jointly with CHEVRON, of their bid submission.
He added: “Greece, with national confidence, is laying strong foundations for its energy self-sufficiency and leveraging its geopolitical position in the Eastern Mediterranean. The government of Kyriakos Mitsotakis is fulfilling its duty to our children and future generations by implementing its commitments for an energy-secure, investment-attractive, and geopolitically strong Greece. From tomorrow we proceed even more decisively, faster, unlocking our country’s potential for progress and prosperity for all Greek women and all Greek men.”
HELLENiQ Energy’s announcement
Within the framework of the relevant call for tenders, published by the Ministry of Environment & Energy (Government Gazette 2104/30.04.2025), for hydrocarbon exploration and production in the four offshore areas south of the Peloponnese and south of Crete, HELLENiQ Energy announces that in cooperation with CHEVRON it participated in this process. The bid was submitted today, according to the rules of the relevant call.
