Health Minister Adonis Georgiadis spoke of “a breakthrough that changes the country’s productive model,” referring to the new tax reform. Specifically, in an interview with ERTnews, the minister characterized Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis’ announcements at the Thessaloniki International Fair as “the biggest relief in personal taxation since the founding of the modern Greek state in 1830,” noting that the goal is for young people to enter the job market with the incentive of zero tax for ten years.

Referring to young workers, Adonis Georgiadis emphasized that young people up to 30 years old will have practically zero taxation, which will boost both their disposable income and employment, as “it benefits businesses to hire them.”
Adonis Georgiadis: The government provides tax incentives for having children
Subsequently, referring to the demographic issue, the minister noted the incentives for large families, emphasizing that the government provides tax incentives for having children, reaching complete tax exemption for families with four children.
Also, speaking about the VAT reduction on islands, he clarified that the 30% reduction on islands with fewer than 20,000 residents does not aim to reduce shelf prices but to boost local economic activity, as “it will reduce accommodation and transportation costs.”
Additionally, referring to the abolition of property tax in the periphery, he underlined that zero burden in villages and small settlements works as an incentive for settling in rural areas, while estimating it will also lead to lower rents in urban centers.
It should be noted that Adonis Georgiadis reiterated that nurses will be included in the hazardous and unhealthy work category from 2026, based on a study being conducted by the Ministry of Labor. Furthermore, he noted that from January 2026, employees will see an increase in disposable income, which will function as a response to high prices.
What Adonis Georgiadis said about the electoral timeline and internal party matters
Mr. Georgiadis, speaking about political developments, emphasized that the government remains committed to tax reduction, while ruling out any scenario of leadership change in New Democracy.
“We have not raised a single tax in six years. We only reduced taxes and social security contributions,” he noted, emphasizing that this is the liberal policy that allows citizens to manage their incomes.
Regarding the electoral timeline, the minister made clear that elections will be held in 2027 and stressed: “If all ministers do our job, we will achieve an absolute majority again.” Concerning polling findings, he mentioned they are far from reality, arguing that the government remains first with a significant difference.
Regarding scenarios about leadership change, the minister characterized them as “comedies and absurdities,” noting: “We have a leader, Mitsotakis has won all electoral contests. New Democracy remains united.”
About former prime ministers Karamanlis and Samaras, he stated he never comments, emphasizing his respect and the need for unity in New Democracy.
About Alexis Tsipras
Furthermore, the Health Minister exercised harsh criticism against Alexis Tsipras, noting that “his speech was disappointing, without vision and brilliance,” while regarding the proposal for “patriotic contribution.” Additionally, he added that “Tsipras proposed a new tax, while Mitsotakis reduced a bunch of taxes. This is our difference.”
About PASOK
Referring to PASOK, Adonis Georgiadis criticized an announcement by the local Drama organization about the incidents, emphasizing they occurred “in his absence.” Indeed, he noted that “PASOK colleagues during the memorandum era threw stones at them. The same people who today chase me with stones and bullets they write on the internet. PASOK cannot, a party that aspires to govern and has governed, identify with thugs.”
New digital reforms in healthcare
Finally, the minister presented new digital reforms in healthcare: the National Electronic Health Record and Digital Oncology Councils, which, as he said, “bring revolution to healthcare and give every cancer patient access to the country’s best doctors.”
Among other things, he commented on his visits to Northern Greece, noting he conducted a tour of almost all health facilities in Eastern Macedonia and Thrace.
