Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis held a brief meeting at Maximos Mansion with Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar’s son, Belgassem. It should be noted that the son of the powerful man who controls Eastern Libya is in Athens for contacts with the political leadership.
Specifically, the General Director of the Libya Development and Reconstruction Fund, Belgassem Haftar, had a scheduled appointment this morning, Monday (8/9), at the Foreign Ministry with Giorgos Gerapetritis, while he is also expected to meet later with Deputy Foreign Minister Harris Theoharis.
During the meeting with the Prime Minister, which was also attended by Foreign Minister Giorgos Gerapetritis, the historic relations between Greece and Libya were reaffirmed, while ways to strengthen them in the economic and commercial sectors were discussed.
It is worth noting that these contacts are taking place approximately two months after the Greek Foreign Minister’s trip to Benghazi, where he had met with Khalifa Haftar in the presence of his sons, and after his visit to Tripoli in Western Libya.
