Government sources responded to PASOK, which criticized government spokesperson Pavlos Marinakis for his Friday statements regarding the Fire Service report on the Tempi train crash.
The government spokesperson, speaking on Open TV in the morning, emphasized that the report “demolishes the cover-up theory,” stating characteristically: “The cover-up theory is crumbling. An opposition attempt to manipulate public opinion is collapsing. Justice is functioning, we want truth in everything, let this be a lesson not to become judges and prosecutors ourselves.”
Among other things, PASOK launched an attack, saying that “Mr. Marinakis confirmed that he has set out to reach the level of major propagandists. Daily he distorts statements, assassinates characters, invents non-existent situations and lies professionally and unscrupulously.”
The government’s response
“The only thing we would have expected from PASOK today was to issue a statement apologizing to citizens because the leadership and party officials fell into the trap of extremist parties and participated in the attempt to manipulate public opinion around the great tragedy of Tempi, adopting conspiracy theories about ‘unknown fuels’ and ‘missing train cars.’ However, all they did was attempt once again to distort reality with their usual patchwork approach,” government sources commented.
“Because truth is persistent and comes back like a boomerang to those who spread conspiracy theories, especially when they try to exploit a tragedy for partisan purposes, we remind them of PASOK president Nikos Androulakis’ statements in his television interview that ‘the ignition came from unknown fuel’ and from the parliamentary podium, where he said ‘we are still searching to learn what the unknown fuel is that caused the ignition.’ We remind them, among other things, of PASOK MP Manolis Christodoulakis’ statement in Parliament about the ‘three train cars that magically disappeared.'”
“An apology would be enough for those who tried to mislead citizens, but PASOK insists on not accepting reality,” it is emphasized.
“P.S. We are still waiting for PASOK to answer us about their incredible sleight of hand regarding the final fiscal cost of the 13th salary in the public sector, their attempt to deceive citizens about the real GDP increase, which they compared twice with inflation developments, as well as the remaining questions we have posed about tax revenues and the economy. No matter how much they try, they will not avoid the answers,” government circles concluded.
