The president of Voice of Reason Afroditi Latinopoulou spoke to Live News about the car accident she had on Kifisias Avenue.
The car in which Afroditi Latinopoulou was traveling, heading towards Kifisia, was being driven by her associate. When he saw the traffic light turning amber, he reduced speed and then, as the MEP describes, the vehicle following them crashed into theirs.
Initially, the president of Voice of Reason spoke about the two traffic accidents in Kastoria and Pieria that have shocked everyone. “I’m fine, there were no concerning findings regarding my health. However, what I would like to start with is to express my sincere condolences to the two families of the two sixteen-year-olds who lost their lives yesterday in Kastoria in a car accident. As well as to the family of the nine-year-old girl in Pieria. Unfortunately, we have a high rate of fatal traffic accidents in Greece, fatal accidents are a “scourge”. Harsh measures must finally be taken and first of all, we must teach everyone from a young age that they must wear seatbelts“.
Afroditi Latinopoulou on the car accident: “The impact was strong, we wore seatbelts”
“What we did was stop at an amber traffic light and someone came from behind at speed and essentially crashed into us. What I have said and continue to say is that we were wearing seatbelts, however the impact was strong, we certainly felt the collision. We were wearing seatbelts and seatbelts save lives, we must say this and it’s a message we must convey whenever we can. What we did immediately was put on our hazard lights and he even put his on too, this irresponsible person. He put on hazard lights, he didn’t stop. What happened was he turned on hazard lights while he was still behind us, so that I thought he would stop at the side like we did. It seemed like we would both stop at the side of the road so as not to create further congestion. However, while he also turned on hazard lights, he deceived us, he overtook, accelerated, and left. The only thing I managed to see from behind was the license plates, his license plate number“, emphasized Ms. Latinopoulou.
And she added: “From there on, what happened as you understand and what I thought was that today it happened to me. Tomorrow though, the same person, because I didn’t know who he was or what he was, could do it to someone else, to a child, to a pedestrian, to any other person, an irresponsible driver who even in this incident doesn’t turn on hazard lights, doesn’t stop at the side, and gets up and leaves accelerating, the first thing I thought was “no, he can’t do this to any human being” and if now this person escapes, tomorrow or the day after there will be someone else who will be his victim.”
“Because there were cameras, and I also saw the license plates and because the Greek police intervened immediately and I thank them from the bottom of my heart, this particular irresponsible driver did not escape in any other case, he could have escaped. I remember he was in the middle lane, we put on hazard lights so that slowly we could move to the side road that existed on Kifisias. What happened was we gave all the details, of course I also gave the license plate number of this particular person. I want to say that I’m fine, to all friends and to all those who have sent touching messages of interest, love and support”, she concluded.
How the car accident happened
The driver of Indian origin who allegedly caused the car accident left the scene after the incident, but was later located and arrested.
