Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis attended the signing ceremony of the memorandum of cooperation for the operation of the “Alexander the Great” Studies Chair at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.
The prime minister expressed his satisfaction with this development, citing two reasons. First, the establishment of thematic chairs in universities is a normal practice abroad, and second, this chair is sponsored by the private sector. Deputy Minister of Interior (Macedonia – Thrace) Kostas Gkioulekas noted that the chair’s establishment proceeded following his proposal during a meeting with university authorities in Northern Greece, and the Ministry of Agriculture is also symbolically one of the sponsors.
Aristotle University of Thessaloniki Rector Kyriakos Anastasiades characterized the signing of the memorandum for the “Alexander the Great” Studies Chair as a “contract with History.”
The memorandum signing took place at the Concert Hall, with Education, Religious Affairs and Sports Minister Sofia Zacharaki and Deputy Minister Nikos Papaionanou in attendance.
The “Alexander the Great” Chair will operate within the School of Philosophy at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, with funding secured for three years through sponsors including Thessaloniki’s three Chambers (Commercial and Industrial, Handicraft, Professional) and the Hellenic Federation of Enterprises and Exporters’ Associations.
The memorandum was signed by Aristotle University authorities and the presidents and representatives of the Chambers and Associations.
Subsequently, Mr. Mitsotakis met with the rectors of Northern Greece universities (Aristotle, Macedonia, Democritus, International, Western Macedonia). Education, Religious Affairs and Sports Minister Sofia Zacharaki and Deputy Minister for Higher Education Nikos Papaionanou attended the meeting.
