“The pedestrianization has begun and by the end of October or early November, the pedestrianization of Queen Olga Avenue will be completed,” stated Athens Mayor Haris Doukas, speaking on Parapolitika 90.1 radio show “Why Did You Wake Me Up Early” with journalists Sotiris Xenakis and Vasilis Skouris.

He continued by explaining: “It will be a low-traffic street where vehicles will move at speeds of 20 to 30 kilometers per hour. Trams and electric buses will definitely pass through.”
The Athens mayor added that they are examining the possibility for drivers on Amalias Street at the junction with Queen Olga Avenue to make U-turns and enter Plaka district. He also mentioned that vehicles will be able to move from Ardittos to Athanasios Diakos Street and vice versa. He added that the direction toward the METS neighborhood will also be legal.
As Haris Doukas later explained: “The Ardittos area is heavily congested.” He added that: “Tomorrow we will pass all these traffic changes through the municipal council.”
Regarding the illegal animal cemetery in Chorofylakis Grove, the Athens mayor said that the case is being handled by police and prosecutors. The complaints have been verified, with sworn statements given to the prosecutor. “I have seen 3-4 animals with my own eyes,” said Haris Doukas, emphasizing that disinfection has been carried out in the area. He concluded by mentioning that there are plans for an inter-municipal animal cemetery.
