Government spokesman Pavlos Marinakis held his first traditional press briefing for the new season, during which he emphasized that the 13th salary for public employees will not be granted because it costs 1.5 billion euros – the same amount as Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis’s “basket” of measures at the Thessaloniki International Fair (TIF).
Pavlos Marinakis: Why 13th salary and pension bonuses are ruled out
The government spokesman was categorical on the issue, as well as regarding the 13th and 14th pension bonuses. As he stressed, the 13th salary will not be given to public employees because it has a cost of 1.5 billion euros.
Characteristically, Pavlos Marinakis stated: “1.5 billion is the amount of measures that Mr. Mitsotakis will announce from TIF. Let PASOK tell us that they want money to be given only to public employees and not to pensioners. Let them tell us they don’t want taxes to be reduced.”
Finally, when asked why the 13th and 14th pension bonuses will not be given, the government spokesman said this measure costs 5 billion euros, noting: “The people will judge at the elections. We want taxes to be reduced.”
