Dimitris Papadimoulis supports the return of Alexis Tsipras to a central political role, emphasizing that the former prime minister continues to possess “the strongest political capital” in the broader center-left space.
Specifically, in his post, the former vice-president of the European Parliament launches sharp criticism against the Mitsotakis government, referring to “six years that brought high prices, social inequalities, scandals, suffocating control over Justice and the media, as well as the expansion of corruption and the clientelist state.”
As he notes, these conditions strengthen the need for a strong, convincing alternative governance proposal.
Dimitris Papadimoulis: Alexis Tsipras maintains by far the strongest political capital from the space of the former unified SYRIZA
Mr. Papadimoulis particularly emphasizes the inability of progressive and left forces to form a unified, strong pole against New Democracy, something that –as he argues– prevents the creation of a massive current of hope for political change.
“The urgent requirement is a convincing progressive plan for the present and future of the country, capable of uniting forces from the Left to the Center,” he emphasizes.
In this context, the former head of SYRIZA’s MEPs expresses the expectation that Alexis Tsipras, “having learned from his mistakes too – particularly the period 2019-2023 but also in the phase of his resignation and succession,” will choose initiatives that will contribute to the “creation of a necessary progressive alliance with winning prospects.”
