Shock and grief have swept through the country’s political world following the news of the sudden death of New Democracy parliamentary group secretary Apostolos Vesyropoulos, who died from a heart attack on Thursday afternoon (21/8). The entire political establishment is expressing sorrow over his death and offering condolences to his family.
Political condolences pour in for Apostolos Vesyropoulos
Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis expressed shock at the loss of the former deputy finance minister.
Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis’s full statement:
“I was shocked to learn of the sudden death of Apostolos Vesyropoulos. A worthy colleague and beloved politician who served for many years our party, his homeland and the country. Together with the entire New Democracy Parliamentary Group, we bid farewell today to our Secretary General, the former Deputy Finance Minister, the top-voted MP from Imathia. Those of us who knew him will remember him as a kind and good man, devoted to duty and with a genuine desire to serve his country. My heartfelt condolences to his beloved wife and their children.”

Deputy Prime Minister Kostis Hatzidakis stated: “Apostolos Vesyropoulos, a kind and dignified man, a loyal soldier of New Democracy, left us suddenly and prematurely. We worked closely together in recent years, as he was Chairman of the Parliament’s Economic Committee and I was Finance Minister. More recently, when he became Secretary of the Parliamentary Group, we had regular meetings to coordinate parliamentary work. A consistent parliamentarian, reliable colleague, beloved by all colleagues and citizens of Imathia. His loss has shocked us all.”
Finance Minister Kyriakos Pierrakakis posted: “With deep sadness we bid farewell to our friend and colleague Apostolos Vesyropoulos. He served public life with integrity, dedication and consistency, leaving a significant mark both at the Finance Ministry and as Secretary of the New Democracy Parliamentary Group. Beyond his political career, Apostolos was a warm, gentle and generous person. His premature and sudden loss leaves a huge void for all of us who knew and worked with him. Sincere condolences to his family. Courage and strength in these very difficult times.”
Parliament Speaker Constantine Tassoulas declared: “With feelings of deep sadness we learned of the unexpected loss of the Secretary General of the New Democracy Parliamentary Group, Imathia MP Apostolos Vesyropoulos, a politician who served his country with consistency. He was repeatedly honored by his fellow citizens and certainly had much more to offer. To his wife, children and relatives I express my warmest condolences.”
Defense Minister Nikos Dendias posted: “The death of our friend, Parliamentary Group Secretary and New Democracy MP for Imathia, Apostolos Vesyropoulos, causes the deepest grief for all of us. Sincere condolences to his wife and their children, as well as all his relatives.”
Environment and Energy Minister Stavros Papastavrou stated: “The sudden death of Apostolos Vesyropoulos shocks us all. A young man, a true friend and companion, a party fighter, with integrity, hard work and consistency. Sincere condolences to his family.”

Our own Apostolos, always kind, sweet and supportive to everyone, Apostolos Vesyropoulos, the man who fought for his region and all of Greece, has left us. So young, so unexpectedly. My warmest condolences to his family and all his friends who loved him so much.”
