The Health Minister, Adonis Georgiadis, posted on platform X regarding the issue of illegal prescriptions of antidiabetic medications by two medical residents.
As he emphasized, the arrest of these specific doctors, which took place following a report by their colleague at “G. Gennimatas” hospital, serves as an example of the strict supervision being exercised. Mr. Georgiadis congratulated the doctor who reported the incident and highlighted the need for strict adherence to safety and confidentiality rules in electronic prescription systems.
“The National Health System has no place for such illegal behavior,” he noted, calling on citizens to immediately report any suspicious prescriptions they find in their electronic records.
Specifically, he stated in his post: “The arrest of the medical residents who were illegally prescribing in 2024 happened after a report to the Greek Police by a doctor from ‘G. Gennimatas’ Hospital, whom I congratulate. We have given and continue to give constant instructions to NHS doctors to protect the confidentiality of their codes for the electronic prescription system, as possessing them carries great responsibility.
No such illegal behavior has a place in the NHS, and any citizens who see in their electronic file that medications have been prescribed that they have not received, we ask them to report it immediately.”
