“We insist on the proposal for zero tariffs on European and American products and hope to reach such a level of mutual understanding and trade balance with our American allies sooner rather than later,” emphasizes Kyriakos Mitsotakis in his traditional Sunday post, referring to the trade agreement between the US and the EU. However, he considers the positive aspect of this agreement to be that “it ends a period of uncertainty.” He adds: “But let’s not forget that the imposition of tariffs harms both economies, our products and ultimately the pockets of consumers themselves.”
Mitsotakis on the Greek stock exchange acquisition proposal
The Prime Minister referred to the acquisition of the Greek stock exchange, saying this news is significant for two reasons: “First, because it enhances the outward orientation of the Greek Stock Exchange, brings it closer to major European markets, attracts more investors and gives it greater momentum.
The second reason is that this acquisition constitutes another significant vote of confidence from the international investment community in the recovery of the Greek economy, as recorded from 2019 onwards, with key milestones being the restoration of investment grade and the entry of a major European banking group into the Greek financial market.”

It suffices to say that in tourism, the increase in declared overtime exceeds 1,000%, in hospitality it reaches 130%, while in manufacturing and retail it ranges from 85% to 92%. Undeclared and under-declared work has chronically been one of the biggest problems in the Greek labor market. Now, however, we have the tools to address it, and this means increases both in workers’ incomes and in state revenues, which increased by 1.7 billion euros in the last year alone. At the same time, the results from transforming the Labor Inspectorate into an Independent Authority show that the endeavor succeeded, as inspections have increased from 54,294 in 2019 to 79,290 in 2024, fines from 8,473 to 16,766, and certifications from 33.7 million euros to 51.3 million euros.
New Democracy is the party of work and simultaneously of freedom, legality and security. We want Greeks to work and do business in an environment of freedom, justice and security, with better wages for all, without discrimination and abusive practices. The latest ERGANI system report data records a 25-year record in creating new jobs in the first half of 2025, with an increase of over 75% in private sector employees working under full-time contracts. All this proves that in the labor market too, something is changing for the benefit of many.
