Kyriakos Mitsotakis met with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio at the Maximos Mansion in Athens as part of the latter’s official visit to Greece. During the meeting, both sides discussed the state of Greek-American relations and expressed their shared commitment to expanding cooperation across a wide range of sectors, including defense, security, energy, trade, investment, technology, shipping, education, and culture.
Mitsotakis: “Greece is a pillar of stability”
Kyriakos Mitsotakis stated that “our relations are at the highest level ever,” while Marco Rubio, for his part, noted that “we consider you such a strong partner,” emphasizing that the goal is to further strengthen this relationship.
The Greek Prime Minister described Greece as “a pillar of stability and security in the Eastern Mediterranean,” stressing that the country is a reliable ally with a pivotal role in regional security. Mitsotakis further highlighted that Greece has stood by its allies in the Gulf, reiterating Greece’s strong commitment to maritime safety and freedom of navigation.
The two leaders also exchanged views on connectivity issues and infrastructure projects. Discussions covered the latest international and regional developments, with particular focus on Ukraine, Iran, the Middle East, and the broader Eastern Mediterranean. Both sides also praised the role of the Greek-American community in the United States as a powerful bridge of friendship between the two nations.

The Greek delegation included: Foreign Minister Giorgos Gerapetritis, Deputy Foreign Minister Alexandra Papadopoulou, the Director of the Prime Minister’s Diplomatic Office, Ambassador Katerina Nasika, Greece’s Ambassador to Washington, Ambassador Antonis Alexandridis, and the Director of the Prime Minister’s Office of International Strategic Planning and Communication, Aristotelea Peloni.

During their one-on-one meeting, Kyriakos Mitsotakis said: “Welcome, and congratulations on the very important speech you delivered at the Pnyx. You spoke of the common path between our two countries, and I am pleased that our relations are at their highest level. Greece is a pillar of stability in a turbulent region and a bridge between Europe, the West, the United States, the Middle East, and the Arab world. We are a valued partner for the US, and I am glad that our relationship has grown beyond security — that we serve as a gateway for American LNG into Europe. We have a shared interest in maintaining safe navigation, and I am pleased that you addressed these issues.”
Rubio to Mitsotakis: We keep strengthening this relationship in ways that are mutually beneficial
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio noted that the US-Greece alliance is historic, adding: “We continue to strengthen this relationship in ways that are mutually beneficial. It is a very strong partnership. We agree that we face the same challenges, and most of the time we also agree on the right solutions.” Rubio further added: “The US-Greece alliance is historic — it is built on strong pillars and is expanding into areas such as energy, in mutually beneficial ways.”
