A new party, new bodies, new faces ready to take on the organizational weight and prepare for the electoral battle. In just one and a half months since the founding of ELAS by Alexis Tsipras, the party’s collective governing bodies are being formed through steady organizational steps, while policy work continues at a feverish pace.
The party’s organizational structure — which in its complete form will include the Organizational Committee and its coordinating bodies — is now nearly finalized and declares itself battle-ready, regardless of when elections are announced.
In mid-July, the full composition of the National Council was announced, comprising 400+1 members, and today the 75 members of the Political Committee are being made public.
According to party headquarters on Amalias Avenue, the Political Committee plays a coordinating role in organizing grassroots work, shaping the party’s immediate political direction, and planning and coordinating party activities and internal operations. This group will work alongside Political Committee Secretary Miltos Hatzigianakis.
According to Alexis Tsipras’ team, with the formation of the Political Committee, the party now has a solid organizational structure and firm foundations. With members representative of the full social spectrum — including recognized academics, figures from the business and economic world, youth representatives, local government officials, and a significant number of women in its collective bodies — the party aims to reflect the needs of society.
Who is joining ELAS’s Political Committee
In addition to Alexis Tsipras himself, the Political Committee includes sector coordinators, deputy sector coordinators, members of the National Council, members of INAT, and active citizens. The presence of women is notably strong, as is that of members taking on central roles due to the particular importance given to their respective fields. Among them are Aimilios Cheilakis and Marianna Toumasatou, who together with Themis Moumouldis and Haris Mavroudes represent the arts and culture sector; Maria Lepenioti and Christina Tsangli from the justice sector; and Petros Kokkalis, bringing his extensive background in environmental and ecological affairs.
Ready as if they have been preparing for some time, ELAS members are gearing up to fight the electoral battle armed with the party’s policy positions, their experience in public affairs and collective struggles, and the expertise each brings from their specialized field. The next step is the completion of the party’s full policy positions and comprehensive program, which Alexis Tsipras will present at the Thessaloniki International Fair (TIF).
