Sharp criticism against PASOK for its “fragmented approach” to the OPEKEPE case was voiced by New Democracy’s press spokesperson, Alexandra Sdoukou, defending the government’s stance and reiterating that her party supports a full investigation of the case through a Parliamentary Committee.
“Once again, PASOK is pushing at open doors,” Ms. Sdoukou stated, emphasizing that New Democracy acted immediately by expelling ordinary members allegedly involved in the agricultural subsidies case. She also reminded that the governing party proposed from the beginning the establishment of a Parliamentary Committee, “without seeking to balance accounts,” for a case that, as she said, “has been wounding the country for decades” and has cost 2.7 billion euros in fines.
Subsequently, Ms. Sdoukou referred to the resignation of PASOK’s Heraklion Prefecture Committee Secretary, Lambros Antonopoulos, a close associate of Nikos Androulakis, saying that his choice to return the disputed subsidy citing integrity reasons, “does not align with the image of an innocent person“.
“As days pass, new dimensions of the scandal are being revealed,” she added, emphasizing that the opposition “fears what might be uncovered” and that’s why it refuses a comprehensive investigation. “We insist on the one and only solution: everything in the light, without exceptions,” concluded the New Democracy spokesperson.
OPEKEPE: Full statement by Alexandra Sdoukou in detail
“Once again, PASOK is pushing at open doors. New Democracy rushed to automatically expel all ordinary party members who appear to have involvement in the OPEKEPE case.
At the same time, it highlighted the real dimension of the case, without seeking to balance accounts, and therefore chose the Parliamentary Committee solution for the full investigation of a case that has been “wounding” the country for decades and has cost 2.7 billion euros in fines.
Because at New Democracy we believe that the case does not concern one party, as the opposition wants to convince Greek society.
On the contrary, as days pass, new dimensions of the scandal are revealed, with the participation of a “confidential” person and fellow citizen of Mr. Androulakis from Heraklion Prefecture, who although “innocent,” decided to return the subsidy he received out of “integrity.”
And here we come to the essence of the opposition’s stance: It rushed to reject the solution of comprehensive investigation and insists on a fragmented approach, simply because it fears what might be revealed.
We insist on the one and only solution: everything in the light, without exceptions“.
