The announcement of new measures to reduce banking fees was made today by the Minister of National Economy and Finance, Kyriakos Pierrakakis, through a Facebook post. The regulations aim to reduce the cost of daily transactions for citizens and strengthen confidence in the banking system.
The five measures announced by Kyriakos Pierrakakis
According to the minister, the new measures include:
1. Elimination of fees for bank customers using ATMs of other banks that are members of DIAS.
2. No fees for withdrawals from ATMs of providers with which the bank has shareholding connections for that specific bank’s customers.
3. Fee cap of 1.50 Euro for any other bank charges at ATMs and for provider charges.
4. Free withdrawals in areas with only one ATM, whether for banks or providers.
5. Free balance inquiries and harmonization of providers with bank charges for money transfers.
“Last December we reduced a series of banking charges. Today we take the next step to strengthen citizens’ confidence in the banking system and improve accessibility to banking services.
We intervene immediately, establishing limits and rules. We restore the balance between the market and society with clear political will, with determination, with social conscience. The Greek Government is present, with clear decisions, with substantial protection for everyone,” the minister emphasizes.
