In a formal statement, Dimitris Abramopoulou flatly rejects any connection between his name and the Fight Impunity organization in the context of the ongoing Qatargate investigation, insisting that his involvement with the organization was entirely lawful and had been reviewed and approved by the competent European institutions. He dismisses the allegations as unfounded and categorically denies any involvement in unlawful activities. Notably, he states that he has no intention of invoking parliamentary immunity and will personally request that Greek justice authorities conduct a full investigation into the matter. “There was absolutely no direct or indirect involvement on my part in anything reprehensible,” he states, adding that he will pursue all available legal remedies against any attempt to link his name to illegal activities. He further emphasizes that this matter was closed three years ago with full institutional backing, and that his activity within the organization was declared, approved, and taxed.
Dimitris Abramopoulou’s full statement on the Fight Impunity case within the Qatargate investigation
“I was informed by journalists that a document has apparently been sent by the Belgian authorities to their Greek counterparts, in which an attempt is made — without any basis whatsoever — to link my name to the Fight Impunity case. This matter has never concerned me. The issue that certain parties have attempted to associate with my name was closed three years ago, with full institutional transparency and bearing the seal of the European Commission, pursuant to a decision signed by its President, Ursula von der Leyen. My participation in the Fight Impunity organization, alongside prominent international figures, was entirely legal, vetted, approved, declared, and taxed. There was no involvement on my part — direct or indirect — in anything reprehensible. Any attempt by the Belgian authorities to resurrect this matter and implicate my name in any issue related to Fight Impunity — whether through unfounded allegations or through the distortion of facts — is arbitrary, unacceptable, suspect, and will be met with every lawful means at my disposal. Although this is an entirely baseless matter, I state clearly and unequivocally that I will not invoke any form of parliamentary immunity. On the contrary, I will personally approach the Greek justice system, requesting a full investigation into the matter and a definitive ruling.”
