Alexis Tsipras is expected to announce his party’s shadow government next week. According to parapolitika.gr sources, all officials taking on sector leadership roles are new faces with no reference to the past. For example, Maria Lepenioti is said to be heading the Justice sector, while either Giorgos Chouliarakis or Eugenia Fotoniata will lead the Finance sector. The Development sector will utilize SYRIZA officials from the private sector.
On the other hand, while there were initially thoughts about utilizing Efi Achtsioglou, who was a particularly successful minister in the SYRIZA government, it was ultimately decided she would not take on any portfolio. This stance relates to the fact that almost all pollsters point out to Alexis Tsipras that any reference to the SYRIZA government brings to mind certain officials who have negative connotations with voters. The former prime minister chose, based on the ministries, to position one or at most two officials opposite government figures, with the logic that he didn’t want his shadow government decision to be interpreted as accommodating new officials.
Meanwhile, Giorgos Vasiliadis, who has been responsible for organizational matters until now, will be appointed director of Alexis Tsipras’s office. Yesterday, the appointment of Miltos Chatzigiannakis as Secretary of the National Council and Political Committee was also announced. He is a lawyer, graduate of Athens Law School, elected mayor of Skyros (2014-2019) and MP for Evia (2019-2023), while actively involved in Local Government and Public Administration issues.
The composition of both the National Council and SYRIZA’s Political Committee is expected to be announced in the coming days, while the first session of the National Council is planned for Saturday, June 27. It should be noted that dozens of thematic groups and organizational coordination centers have already been formed and are operating throughout Greece, while the digital platform Myelas.gr is expected to start operating interactively in a few days, with information, discussion and coordination capabilities for all Coalition members.
