Pandemonium erupted in the Greek Parliament plenary session due to continuous disruptions by Zoe Konstantopoulou, leader of Course of Freedom, resulting in an angry intervention by presiding officer Giorgos Georgandas. The final straw that overflowed his cup of anger was what happened during Justice Minister Giorgos Floridis’ speech.
Specifically, when Mr. Floridis took the podium, Ms. Konstantopoulou began shouting “fascist” as well as “you’re lying.” “Make an effort to get up to your seat, Ms. Konstantopoulou. It would have a better aesthetic result. We can’t just hear your voice, we want to see the whole spectacle…” Justice Minister Giorgos Floridis commented mockingly as reactions continued from the Course of Freedom benches.
Georgandas: “Is this the behavior of a Parliamentary Group leader?”
At that point, Georgandas intervened, visibly angry, shouting at her: “End this disgrace,” with New Democracy MPs applauding him. “Are you presiding now?” Zoe Konstantopoulou retorted, with Mr. Georgandas raising his voice even more before suspending the session to set up ballot boxes for the secret vote. “End this disgrace in the chamber. Is this the behavior of a Parliamentary Group leader? This chaos has never existed before in this Parliament,” the Parliament Vice President characteristically stated.
