The president of the “Victory” party, Dimitris Natsios, spoke about Maria Karystianos’ party and the possibility of collaboration with her, among other topics, during his Tuesday morning (19/5) appearance on Parapolitika 90.1, on the show “Opposite Microphones,” with Sotiris Xenakis and Vasilis Skouris.
Additionally, he referenced the Pontic Greek genocide, on the occasion of today’s “black” anniversary, the return of F16s and Patriots to Greece, and why he objects to Christopher Nolan’s “Odyssey” film and what is being heard about the actress who will portray Helen of Troy.
On memorial day for Pontic Greek genocide
Initially, Dimitris Natsios referred to today’s Memorial Day for the Pontic Greek genocide, calling it a “day of mourning for Hellenism.” As he commented, a related event took place yesterday in Parliament, emphasizing among other things that “Global recognition of the genocide must happen. Whoever denies it (Turkey) means they could commit another one. We respect and honor the dead.”
On “end of alert” in Cyprus – Return of F16s and Patriots
Regarding a report in “Nea” newspaper that the alert in Cyprus has now ended and F16s and Patriots are returning to Greece, Dimitris Natsios said: “I had previously raised with the prime minister the issue of announcing the unified defense doctrine of Greece and Cyprus. He told me ‘it’s not necessary, because it’s tacitly maintained.’ Now, it seems he’s listening to ‘foreign commands’ and the island (Cyprus) is being disarmed.”
He continued saying: “Why shouldn’t Greece maintain a permanent force in Cyprus? I suspect that following Turkish pressure, the prime minister is retreating to keep the so-called calm waters. (This isn’t the first time, e.g., Kasos). Underneath lies a disorderly retreat.”
On Christopher Nolan’s “Odyssey” film
Following journalists’ questions about Christopher Nolan’s “Odyssey” film and reports that actress Lupita Nyong’o will portray Helen of Troy, Dimitris Natsios explained that he objects because: “In the name of art, monstrosities are created. Is it possible to interfere with Homer and alter the text? It’s not allowed. And this is subsidized by the Ministry of Culture with 6.5 million? A work that insults Greek history? Achilles presented as a genderless being? Helen of Troy as black? The 6.5 million subsidy bothers me.”
On Maria Karystianos’ party and possibility of Antonis Samaras running in elections
The president of the “Victory” party referred to Maria Karystianos’ new party and whether it will create issues for “Victory.” Initially he said there will be more parties than voters and added that “I think Samaras won’t form a party.”
Regarding Maria Karystianos’ party formation, he said it reminds him of a school trip, explaining that: “When you start, there’s joy, enthusiasm, as the journey progresses, there are difficulties. It reminds me of Tsipras.”
On the possibility that the “Victory” party might remain outside Parliament or whether there’s a possibility of collaboration with Maria Karystianos, Dimitris Natsios said: “We proceed with consistency, seriousness, Karystianos will be judged in the arena of battle. That’s where the difficult part begins.”
In conclusion, he left “open” the possibility of collaboration saying: “For now we see videos with joy and enthusiasm. We experienced this too. When she starts appearing in media, without the rose petals, then we’ll understand. There must be points of convergence. The future is uncertain. We’ll examine, we’ll see who surrounds her and from there we judge and decide.”
