It’s only a matter of time before Kimberly Guilfoyle officially takes over the portfolio of the US embassy in Greece. As it becomes known, in recent hours, one more step remains for the confirmation of her appointment as ambassador. She has been approved by the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee following the traditional hearing. The Foreign Relations Committee gave the “green light” with 13 votes in favor and 9 against. She was supported by Republicans and one Democratic senator, while now what remains is the vote from the full Senate plenary.
The Trump administration’s choice for the position, speaking to the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee, praised Greece’s role as a NATO ally-member in the region, spoke in the best terms about the Greek diaspora in America, while appearing well-informed on Greek-Turkish issues, referring to Turkey’s intention to acquire F-35 aircraft, something that as she said “Turkey has been excluded due to its own choices.”
Guilfoyle appears eager to take on the role of US ambassador to Greece, as in her Instagram post she expressed great honor in testifying before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. “Grateful to be surrounded by incredible friends and family. Your support means everything to me,” she specifically emphasized.
