The Greek Foreign Minister, Giorgos Gerapetritis, is already in Tripoli, Libya, where he met with his counterpart Taher Al-Baour. Libya’s Foreign Minister Taher Al-Baour welcomed Giorgos Gerapetritis, stating: “We welcome you to Tripoli. We are Mediterranean peoples, connected by historical and cultural ties. Libya-Greece relations are always warm. There are always issues that affect relations between the two countries. Of course, these problems should not become obstacles to relations between states. Especially since we are in the same region. The Mediterranean is one of the most beautiful regions in the world.
The Mediterranean has played a major role in relations between the two states. These factors compel us politicians to work on our relations. I hope this trip will be a beginning to give a good turn to relations between the two countries.
Gerapetritis: Greece can and must be Libya’s voice in Europe and the world
In turn, Giorgos Gerapetritis stated: “It is a great honor for me to be in Tripoli. On behalf of the government and the Greek people, I convey a message of peace, good neighborliness, and friendship. Libya is Greece’s natural neighbor. A long-standing ally of culture and history, and our pursuit is to continue together the path toward broader regional security and peace. Our conviction is that there is no problem that cannot be solved through dialogue and that those things that unite us, such as geography and history, are far more than those that divide us.
I look forward to our cooperation and hope this visit will be only the beginning of a good and constructive relationship between our two countries. Greece can and must be Libya’s voice in Europe and the world.”
