The new free four-digit telephone line “1566” made its debut this morning, where citizens can get information about health services, with Adonis Georgiadis visiting the call center and describing it in an interview with ERT as a service that makes citizens’ lives easier.
“We are very happy at the Ministry of Health, initially, from the response – just a few minutes after 1566 started operating and all lines are busy. I think we are providing our fellow citizens with a truly new service that will make their lives easier and help them ultimately have better health services. We are abolishing over 100 telephone lines – from today the telephone line in Greece is one, 1566,” said Mr. Georgiadis.

Georgiadis on 1566 line: Public hospitals will join from early September
At the same time, he informed that from September the line will also cover public hospitals.
“From early September, public hospitals will also be added, for all public hospitals you will call 1566, you will book your appointments, afternoon surgeries, high-cost medications, everything. Free telephone line.
Let me mention a major innovation – 1566 will also call us and remind us that we are entitled to an afternoon surgery, that we have a pending high-cost medication to collect, that we have a pending preventive examination.”
The minister concluded by saying: “I believe that what we are doing today is a major change for the Greek people, I am proud that it is happening during my tenure. It is funded by the Recovery Fund and I think it constitutes a tremendous revolution,” he emphasized.
