Organizational matters are moving at breakneck speed at Amalias, as Alexis Tsipras wants the new political party he is preparing to be ready as soon as possible in order to address society in every possible way. Thus, by the end of the month, the text of policy positions being prepared by Giorgos Siakantaris is expected to be ready.
According to sources, the text will prioritize the world of work, reducing inequalities, social justice, protecting public goods and Democracy, as well as the state, and will address issues such as wage increases, the thirty-five hour work week, and others. Giorgos Siakantaris, in an interview responding to what will differentiate the new political party from other parties operating in the center-left space, answered with a pointed reference to PASOK that “if you are a party of power, you don’t discuss whether you will cooperate with New Democracy.”
Who will publicly represent Tsipras’ party – The Amalias staff that will make decisions
Meanwhile, at the beginning of next week, Alexis Tsipras is expected to announce the new figures who will publicly represent the new political party. Sources indicate that there is a list of about 50 new collaborators from which initially 5 to 10 names will emerge. These officials will represent Tsipras’ party in television discussions. Today, the Amalias staff is expected to convene to make an initial selection. These meetings include Giorgos Vasiliadis, Michalis Kalogirou, Kostas Toumpouros, Miltos Chatzigiannakis, Gianna Peppe, and Theoni Koufounikolakου, who will also handle public relations for the Tsipras Institute.
Meanwhile, SYRIZA officials who have opened the exit door from Koumoundourou are multiplying. After Giorgos Vasiliadis – who left first to join the former prime minister’s staff – and Grigoris Theodorakis, now Zacharoula Tsirigoti is also expected to leave SYRIZA’s ethics committee. It should be noted that these officials are simultaneously requesting their expulsion from the party.
Approaching Konstantinopoulos and Tsipras’ flattering reference
At the same time, information is mounting that Tsipras’ staff will seek to approach Odysseas Konstantinopoulos, given that Alexis Tsipras had spoken publicly about the former PASOK MP in particularly flattering terms. He had acknowledged Odysseas’ selflessness in his decision to resign as an MP to Nikos Chatzinikolaou. “We never found ourselves in the same space, but I must credit him with this, it matters,” he had characteristically stated. He had also completely agreed with the political statement and assessment that Konstantinopoulos had made about the situation in the center-left: “Mr. Konstantinopoulos aptly said that if we’re discussing Tsipras today, it’s because the forces of democratic opposition need to compete with the government and Mr. Mitsotakis,” the former prime minister had noted. From Tsipras’ side, optimism is expressed that this flirtation may soon bear fruit.
It should be noted that the formation of electoral lists in many regions of Greece has already begun. These include personalities from self-organization committees, as well as old and new officials. Alexis Tsipras, in an article in Efimerida ton Syntakton, referred to the fundamental reconstruction of the democratic and progressive space, saying that “The time for assuming responsibilities is approaching.”
