“We will be present in the next electoral contest, whenever that may be. And I will be present too,” declared Alexis Tsipras during his interview on ANT1 with Nikos Chatzinikolaou, emphasizing that in this new effort, everyone will be welcome, but without anyone being able to set terms, and insisting that any MPs who want to follow him must resign.
Alexis Tsipras: New party in September – “I’m not the same person I was yesterday”
“In this new effort, those who without exception agree and wish to follow will be welcome, but without setting terms and conditions for their support. And the pathologies of the past must not continue tomorrow and in the future. We must learn from lessons. In this effort there will be no reserved positions in the front row or in the first position of the ship,” the former prime minister stated characteristically.
He even spoke about the mistakes of the past, saying: “I have suffered and I have learned. And I have learned from people and their behaviors. From my mistakes, but also from the behaviors I faced. I am not the same Tsipras. I am not the one I was yesterday. Defeats are sometimes more beneficial than victories. I have nothing to prove, at 40 I became prime minister of the country, the youngest in its history. I served 4.5 years as prime minister with all the mistakes, the omissions, I left with my head held high. I have nothing to prove, I have no ambition, but on the other hand I cannot remain in comfortable silence and not see that there is such a big gap in the political system, thousands of citizens saying you must take your responsibilities and I sit in the back benches.”
The new party
“WITHIN SOCIETY” Giving the characteristics of the new party he noted: “This effort, because I consciously want it to be born within society, will not be born within Parliament. It cannot have active MPs at its beginning, because it will not have a Parliamentary Group. It will be born within society, from society, for society.”
Regarding the time he will announce the new political entity, he mentioned that “your appointment with history must happen at its time, neither go and be stood up, nor much earlier. It will happen at its time. I think the processes must be accelerated in the coming period, there is no doubt, but if things go smoothly, I think you won’t see any surprise in the coming period. The most logical is towards September, but developments -as you see- are overtaking us. My personal assessment is that Mr. Mitsotakis will not call elections, but I might be wrong.”
