The vote counting for the new Central Political Committee of PASOK turned into a thriller with prolonged suspense, as internal party balances were shaped through a lengthy and slow process. Nikos Androulakis clearly prevails in the battle of correlations, as the so-called “presidential group” secures, as expected, the majority and dominance. However, the delay in announcing the results –which could not be made on Monday afternoon as initially calculated– caused grumbling among Movement officials.
Christodoulakis bloc emerges as second force in PASOK Central Committee
At the same time, Manolis Christodoulakis emerges as the second force, confirming the strengthening of his influence. The young MP exits the congress process as one of the main power poles in the party, with his anti-right rhetoric finding resonance and giving him characteristics of autonomous political presence.
According to initial unofficial results, the presidential wing achieved significant success, securing just under 150 members in the new Central Committee body along with alliances (Diamantopoulou, Christidis), with the “Androulakis supporters” raising the number to 155, corresponding to 57%. Manolis Christodoulakis’s camp elected 74 members, corresponding to 28%, establishing his “bloc” as the second force within the party after Nikos Androulakis’s leading group. The alliance of Pavlos Geroulanos and Michalis Katrinis resulted in electing approximately 50 members, with their teams raising the number to 55. Charis Doukas’s bloc secured fourth place in the ranking of internal party currents, electing 7 officials, three of whom with proportional representation due to their participation in a party component.
Top seven vote-getters in PASOK Central Committee
The electoral process for PASOK’s new Central Committee was characterized by intense competition, with positions at the top constantly alternating. Every vote proved decisive, with the final ranking of the first seven shaped as follows:
• Lefteris Karchimakis
• Thanasis Glavinas
• Anna Diamantopoulou
• Kostas Papadimitriou
• Sotiris Papageorgiou
• Kostas Tsoukalas
• Christos Kaklamanis
Meanwhile, within the party, focus is already turning to the next day. The two main challenges concern electoral readiness and PASOK’s polling rise. Parliamentary spokesperson Dimitris Mantzos left open the possibility of early elections, citing international developments and internal issues pressuring the government. At the same time, he clarified that, based on congress decisions, PASOK does not intend to participate in a government scheme with the current ruling party, emphasizing the Movement’s political autonomy.
