Alexis Tsipras from Lamia where he spoke on Saturday afternoon not only declared a “new relentless” stance against the government, saying that in the next elections Kyriakos Mitsotakis “will find him as his opponent,” but also attacked PASOK saying that “they are holding a congress to see if they will govern with Mitsotakis. Today after seven years. No guys, we shouldn’t hold congresses to see if we will govern with Mitsotakis.”
Dismantling the basic narrative of Nikos Androulakis that his party’s goal is to win the elections even by one vote difference from New Democracy, the former prime minister stated: “Today, unfortunately, the political forces of the democratic opposition are not in a position to represent this necessary YES. To propose a realistic progressive answer, way out, alternative to the regime of corruption and insecurity. And to convince a skeptical society. Small-party calculations, grandiose and out-of-reality victory declarations, unattainable merger proposals, characterize the democratic and progressive confusion. Departures, movements with parliamentary seats under siege, contradictory statements, moral and ideological exhaustion, take the character of political degeneration. And this produces and intensifies disappointment, privatization, abstention. And this is also Mitsotakis’ most effective weapon and his custody in the media and the state.”
Tsipras’ “attack” on Androulakis and the vulnerable point of PASOK’s strategy he is “hitting”
Alexis Tsipras’ attack against Charilaou Trikoupi has to do obviously with the fact that PASOK despite its congress process does not appear to have polling gains. Given, moreover, the complaints that existed throughout the recent period to ensure that Charilaou Trikoupi would not govern with New Democracy under any circumstances, the former prime minister obviously considered that this is the vulnerable point of PASOK’s strategy, where he can hit them.
He also referred to Nikos Androulakis’ basic narrative about one more vote in the elections, knowing very well that this narrative is also disputed by many officials of the main opposition party. Both Charis Doukas in his statements and Pavlos Geroulanos with his references to “needle” have shown that they are particularly cautious about this narrative. At the same time, the attack against the main opposition party is part of the broader planning of Alexis Tsipras’ staff, which believes that due to the war we may have early elections.
Thus Alexis Tsipras decided to accelerate the pace since no one knows Kyriakos Mitsotakis’ intentions. In this context, however, he is expected on Thursday to reveal his cards speaking to Nikos Chatzinikolaou in his first interview since 2023.
At the same time, procedures are being accelerated at Amalias regarding the announcements that the former prime minister will make not only about his party’s positions but also about the people who will represent him publicly. His intention is that the initial scheme should not include figures from the past as he wishes to highlight his new collaborators.
Tsipras’ “jab” at Sakellaridis
Alexis Tsipras also gave his political mark speaking about a restructured progressive front, a strong Left: “In the next elections, whenever they take place, New Democracy and Mr. Mitsotakis should have an opponent. And let everyone be certain that they will have an opponent. A restructured progressive front. A strong Left. Capable of inspiring, uniting, depositing honesty, militancy, new faces and ideas. But also governance experience. Capable in two words both to win and to implement the major changes that our people and our country need.”
Obviously the former prime minister in his own way gives his own answer to those from the Left – Gabriel Sakellaridis – who criticize him that he is now far from the political mark that made him prime minister of the country.
