Foreign Minister Georgios Gerapetritis is making a trip to Libya. The Foreign Minister will visit Benghazi tomorrow, Saturday (28/3), where he will meet with Marshal Khalifa Haftar, aiming to maintain open channels with eastern Libya. In their previous meeting, they discussed trade agreements, with Khalifa Haftar looking to attract investments from Greece, while offering in “exchange” the non-ratification by parliament of the Turkish-Libyan memorandum and “distancing” from Ankara.

Aiming to maintain balance, however, Georgios Gerapetritis has also scheduled a visit to Tripoli, and since it couldn’t be arranged for the same day according to the program, he will travel there on April 1st. The meeting in Tripoli takes place against the backdrop of technical talks that have (theoretically) begun for the delimitation of the Greek-Libyan Exclusive Economic Zone. It should be noted that while the technical committees from Athens and Tripoli want to move forward, we are still far from an agreement at any level, as there is no legally elected and recognized government that can represent Libya in signing a potential agreement.
