The constitutionally prescribed oath before the national representation was taken on Monday morning by Vangelis Giannakoyras. Mr. Giannakoyras assumes the parliamentary seat of Odysseas Konstantinopoulos in Arcadia. Thus, the parliamentary strength of PASOK rises again to 32 MPs.
Who is Vangelis Giannakoyras: Sworn in as Arcadia MP with PASOK
Born in Tripoli to teacher parents. He originates from Athinaio, in the Municipal Unit of Valtetsiou in the Municipality of Tripoli, where he completed primary school. He is married to Konstantina Argyropoulou, a Microbiologist Doctor, who comes from Soulari in Megalopolis, and is the father of two children, Haris and Angelos.
Studies – Professional activity
He attended the 1st Gymnasium of Tripoli. He is a distinguished graduate of Medicine and holds a Master’s degree from Sapienza University of Rome in Italy. He completed his military service as a doctor in the 1st Paratrooper Company. He served as a Rural Doctor in Arcadia, in the villages of Falanthos, based in Piana. He served as a doctor at the Pan-Arcadian Hospital of Tripoli.
He obtained his specialization as a General Surgeon at the University Surgical Clinic of Hippokration Hospital in Athens. He was awarded a Doctorate from the Medical School of the University of Athens with distinction. For many years, he worked as a freelance General Surgeon in private clinics in Athens. Today he holds the position of Director Surgeon in the National Health System.
Social & political action
He became involved in public affairs from a young age, serving as President of the cultural association of his village in Athinaion, Arcadia. He served as a councilor in the federation of the former Municipality of Valtetsiou, Vice President of the Pan-Arcadian Federation of Greece and General Secretary from 1993 to 1995.
He is among the founding members of the Association of Rural Doctors and rural clinic staff of Arcadia prefecture, where he served as General Secretary. He was a member of the three-member committee of the Pan-Arcadian Hospital and representative to EINPIS (Union of Doctors of Peloponnese, Ionian & Central Greece). He served as Vice President of the Board of Directors of the General State Hospital of Western Attica “Agia Varvara” (former Infectious Diseases) from 1993 to 1996.
In the 1994 local government elections, he was elected among the first in preference votes as a Prefectural Councilor of Arcadia, with Dimosthenis Davetas’ coalition and PASOK’s support. In the Parliamentary Elections of 1996, 2000 and 2007, he was selected by both the party’s Prefectural Committee and central bodies as a PASOK Parliamentary candidate in Arcadia prefecture, where he gathered a large number of votes.
In the regional elections of 2010 and 2014, he was elected Deputy Regional Governor of Peloponnese, as he headed the “New Peloponnese” faction in the Regional Unit of Arcadia, with PASOK’s support and in cooperation with Petros Tatoulis. In the 2019 regional elections, he was elected Regional Councilor of Peloponnese in Arcadia (2019-2023) with the “New Peloponnese” faction. During the work of the last PASOK-KINAL congress in 2022, he was elected by hundreds of PASOK members-delegates as a Member of the Movement’s Central Political Committee.
Following a unanimous proposal from the Prefectural Committee of PASOK KINAL Arcadia as well as the party’s ballot committee, he was selected as a Parliamentary candidate for PASOK KINAL in Arcadia for the national elections of May 21st. Thousands of fellow citizens trusted me and I was declared 1st alternate. In the 2023 regional elections, he was elected regional councilor of Peloponnese in Arcadia with the “New Peloponnese” faction. A position he maintains to this day.
