Full statement by Giorgos Gerapetritis
“Greece does not intend to get involved in the war that is currently unfolding. Furthermore, we condemn in the strongest terms the attacks against Greek merchant ships operating under a regime of complete legality. The attacks in the Black Sea endanger the safety of crews, and additionally, the attacks taking place in the Mediterranean pose a very serious ecological issue for impending environmental catastrophe. The European Union must manage unprecedented situations and must rise to meet the circumstances.
The security of our continent is indivisible. The last four years have shaken the European Union and functioned as a catalyst, readjusting policies and accelerating decisions, so that Europe becomes strategically autonomous, competitive and stronger. Germany’s role at this level as a major European power is absolutely decisive.”
