Bulgaria will be visited on Thursday, March 12 by Greece’s Defense Minister Nikos Dendias, following an invitation from his Bulgarian counterpart Atanas Zaprianov, with whom he will hold bilateral talks in Sofia. According to the announcement, joint statements will follow after the meeting, while during his stay in the Bulgarian capital, Defense Minister Nikos Dendias will also be received by the country’s Prime Minister.

Defense Minister Nikos Dendias’s visit is part of strengthening Greek-Bulgarian relations in defense, security and innovation sectors, at a time when military cooperation between the two countries is taking on more substantial characteristics. It should be recalled that, as announced on Friday, March 6, 2026, following Sofia’s request and a decision by the Government Council for Foreign Affairs and Defense (KYSEA), a Patriot battery is being moved to northern Greece with the aim of strengthening Bulgaria’s anti-ballistic protection. In parallel, two F-16 fighter aircraft are undertaking surveillance of Bulgarian airspace.
