Government spokesperson Pavlos Marinakis addressed the migration issue, initially stating that “Greece in the most difficult geography has proven that it can handle the greatest crises, as in Evros.”
The government spokesperson continued the political discussion, prompted by yesterday’s announcements from the responsible minister, Thanos Plevris, stating on OPEN TV: “We make decisions based on reality and not based on ideologies.”
Marinakis on migration: “No one said these people should not be fed”
Regarding the issue of feeding migrants in facilities and the surrounding atmosphere that was created, Pavlos Marinakis said: “I understood it too, while in principle I saw agreement in society. It was presented fragmentarily, the minister said something that as a policy must be implemented by Europe. No one said these people should not be fed, but the cost cannot be greater than the cost of feeding in student dormitories, for example. Also, one cannot receive housing allowance and find work. Why did Mr. Plevris say this? Because any approach factor must be limited, we don’t want to punish those who have no fortune under the sun. But they should know: Illegal means prison or back.”
Subsequently, referring to the criticism the government receives regarding migration initiatives, he mentioned: “As dangerous as those who insult migrants with racist motives are, so are the slanderers of the country, their time has passed them by. Their ideologies are outdated. They have no idea what happens in Evros, in Crete, in the Aegean.”
Finally, as he noted, the government intends to keep open channels with Libya. He emphasized that: “Those who spoke of defeat for the Mitsotakis government were proven wrong,” while regarding the OPEKEPE scandal he clarified that “Citizens will not pay the fine.”
