In statements made by the Minister of Citizen Protection, he emphasized that “all Greeks are equal before the law and no one is exempt,” adding that “the issue of combating crime, delinquency and enforcing security is non-negotiable.”
At the same time, he noted that “whoever violates the law, whoever does not respect freedom, property, children, has no place in society” and added: “This is what our Democracy says. This is what the social contract that we all signed within the framework of our democratic State says and this is what we have all served for years, all parties. The answer is absolutely one. The enforcement of law and order within the framework of our democratic State without any deviation.”
Speaking about the establishment of the permanent Crime Prevention and Suppression Team in Western Achaia, he said it “was a request from the municipal authority that will address all the specific issues of crime and delinquency in the area, with the main goal of strengthening the sense of security among citizens in the broader region.”
Indeed, as the Mayor of Western Achaia, Grigoris Alexopoulos, mentioned at this point, “from the day the temporary OPKE came to strengthen our municipality, our children can play in playgrounds again.”
Specifically, as Michalis Chrysochoidis said, “the permanent Crime Prevention and Suppression Team in Western Achaia will consist of new police officers, who will be transferred to the Western Achaia OPKE by the end of the year.”
In the same context, the Minister of Citizen Protection announced that “the permanent DIAS unit will consist of two teams, totaling 8 people, who will patrol from morning until midnight, so that we have a continuous flow of policing, in combination with the policing measures taken by the police department of the area.”
He also referred to the controls carried out by the Traffic Police, appealing to motorcyclists to wear helmets and continued: “People are being killed on the road, children, small ones, young children. It’s a shame, in a country that has such a need for such precious human resources, due to the lack of helmets.”
During his statements, the Minister of Citizen Protection made special reference to the issue of the construction of the new police headquarters in Patras, saying: “The tender for the construction of the new building has been completed, which will truly adorn the city of Patras, so that we can house the Police, the police officers, all those who work for the security of the Prefecture of Achaia in modern facilities.”
During his visit to the Municipality of Western Achaia, Michalis Chrysochoidis was briefed on all the issues concerning the services of Western Greece, during a meeting attended by the General Coordinator of Police of Southern Greece, Lieutenant General Panagiotis Poupouzas, the General Regional Police Director of Western Greece, Major General Theodoros Tsatsaris, senior officers and officials of the Hellenic Police.
