Environment and Energy Minister Stavros Papastavrou held a meeting today (February 25) with U.S. Secretary of the Interior and Chairman of the Energy Dominance Council, Doug Burgum, and Secretary of Energy and Vice Chairman of the Energy Dominance Council, Chris Wright, in the presence of Greece’s Ambassador to the U.S., Antonis Alexandridis, and the U.S. Ambassador to Greece, Kimberly Guilfoyle. The discussion between the Greek Minister and American officials focused on close bilateral cooperation in the energy sector, highlighted by recent energy agreements with the Chevron-HelleniqEnergy consortium, as well as those signed at P-TEC and yesterday’s White House Summit.
Following the meeting, Minister Papastavrou stated: “Our meeting with the ministers leading the United States Energy Security Council, Doug Burgum and Chris Wright, confirmed the strategic relationship between the two countries in the energy sector. Greece paved the way for the Vertical Corridor. A significant initiative with geopolitical impact, recognized by the 22 countries present at yesterday’s White House Conference. We are at the center of the Energy Agreements signed yesterday, following the P-TEC Agreements at Athens’ Zappeion. These agreements highlight our country’s upgraded role in the new energy architecture. Today, Greece is the gateway for American natural gas and a reliable hub for energy security. Tomorrow, we aspire to develop the hydrocarbon sector, produce natural gas for the benefit of Greeks, our homeland, and Europe as a whole. Energy is power. Power of security, power of development and international influence. We move forward with national pride and confidence.”
Subsequently, Minister Papastavrou was scheduled to meet with Senator and Chairman of the International Relations Committee, James Risch, and Congress members Chuck Fleischmann and Randal Weber.
