Mitsotakis on TikTok addresses youth unemployment & minimum wage
Responding to young people who were asked: “Where do you think Greece stands compared to other European countries in youth unemployment?”, and after they stated that unemployment in their generation is at high levels, the Prime Minister said: “In 2019, Greece was the European champion in youth unemployment, with a rate of almost 40%.” Asking the question “where are we today?” he answered that “from the 39.5% we inherited in 2019, youth unemployment has dropped to 13%.” “We are now below the European average,” he added. “I’m not telling you all this to celebrate,” he clarified, but “because something is changing.” “We’re talking about jobs, more choices, better wages, young people returning to our homeland,” he argued. “But I know well that high prices and especially the housing problem are pressuring young people,” he stated. “That’s why we continue: zero income tax for young people under 25 with income up to 20,000 euros. Many of you have already seen the difference in your paychecks,” he added. He also referenced the “My Home II” program and the new increase in the minimum wage.
