Nikitas Kaklamanis and Lina Mendoni held a telephone conversation regarding the photographs of the 200 executed victims of Kaisariani. The president of the Parliament and the Minister of Culture agreed that if the photographs are acquired by the Ministry of Culture, they will subsequently be transferred to the Greek Parliament.
It is recalled that Parliament President Nikitas Kaklamanis, speaking with parliamentary correspondents, argued that at the upcoming Conference of Presidents meeting, he will seek authorization for Parliament to take the necessary actions regarding the acquisition of the photographs, provided it can be proven that they constitute war evidence. According to Mr. Kaklamanis, the authenticity of the photographs with the executed victims must first be verified before proceeding with their acquisition. “There is an international law that prohibits this platform from commercializing war evidence,” the Parliament president characteristically noted.
“Although it is not Parliament’s responsibility, but rather the Ministry of Culture’s, Parliament, which has the relevant flexibility, will attempt to purchase the photographs,” he further emphasized. Regarding the letter sent to him by former Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras, Mr. Kaklamanis meaningfully stressed that the Parliament Foundation would not be able to proceed with their acquisition as it would not have the necessary budget, unlike Parliament. He also added that the proposal submitted to him by the KKE General Secretary, Dimitris Koutsoumbas, to stop the electronic auction by Parliament, is correct.
