“We maintain that the issues are not unsolvable based on international law,” emphasized Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan during joint statements with Kyriakos Mitsotakis, adding that he noted with “satisfaction” convergence with the Greek Prime Minister on this particular framework. In joint statements following their meeting and the 6th High-Level Cooperation Council session between Greece and Turkey, the Turkish President welcomed the Greek Prime Minister, speaking of dialogue continuation and “common ground” that, as he said, is created by bilateral agreements to strengthen mutual contacts.
Erdogan on geopolitical issues: “Good will and desire for solution are sufficient”
Turning to geopolitical matters, Erdogan stated: “We discussed our positions on the Aegean and Eastern Mediterranean. We maintain that these issues are thorny but not unsolvable based on international law. Good will and desire for solution are sufficient.
I was pleased to note that we agree on this matter with my guest Kyriakos. We believe that since 2023 progress has been made in solving the interconnected problems in the Aegean.”
Erdogan also referred again to the Muslim minority in Thrace: “I shared with Mr. Mitsotakis our views on freedoms for the ‘Turkish’ minority in Western Thrace.
“We also examined the ceasefire in Gaza and the ongoing peace plan. Turkey rejects Israel’s decisions to expand in the West Bank. Turkey rejects Israel’s decisions to extend its activities in the West Bank,” he added.
