The Turkish pro-government newspaper Türkiye characterized as “pioneering” the statements made by Kyriakos Mitsotakis about Greek-Turkish relations during his interview with SKAI and Alexis Papachelas. The Greek Prime Minister Mitsotakis spoke about Hakan Fidan, while his message regarding the Aegean and Eastern Mediterranean caused a stir, according to the related report.
Türkiye on Mitsotakis: “The Greek Prime Minister made pioneering statements about Turkey”
“Greek Prime Minister Mitsotakis made pioneering statements regarding Turkey. Characterizing Hakan Fidan’s statements as a positive and bold step, Mitsotakis emphasized direct contact with Ankara, while also openly acknowledging the real tensions in the Aegean and Eastern Mediterranean,” reports Türkiye.
The newspaper adds: “Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, speaking on SKAI television, stated that a tête-à-tête meeting with President Erdogan will take place before February 15. He declared that he will travel to Ankara in the coming weeks and that contacts with Turkey are conducted directly. Mitsotakis stated that there is no need for any intermediary between the two countries and acknowledged that communication channels with Turkey are open.”
Finally, the newspaper did not fail to focus on the Prime Minister’s statements about the casus belli as Greece’s negotiating card against Turkey. “Referring to Turkey’s casus belli decision in the Aegean, Mitsotakis said that as long as this decision remains in force, Turkey will not be able to benefit from European Union funds. He acknowledged that this stance constitutes a negotiating card for Greece.”
